• Leaders….We need them to stand up and be counted

    What is a leader?

What does one look like? Someone with character, integrity, who leads by example.

Actions speak louder than mere words.

I love to read about true leaders, and was excited to read about General Montgomery (AKA Monty) in

the Chavda’s Elijah List entry just over one week ago (see article below). His leadership in World War II,

at a critical time in the North Africa theatre, provided a “spark” for the Allied forces. He wore his faith on his sleeve,

and he led by example. Below is the Elijah List entry.

    Mahesh and Bonnie Chavda:
    Lord, Give Us Leaders

Mahesh and Bonnie ChavdaDuring World War II, our mentor and spiritual father, Derek Prince, served in the British army in the Sudan. The British forces were in disarray and completely demoralized. Their commanding officers were undisciplined and showed no concern for their duties or the forces under their command. Rommel was aggressively advancing across North Africa, and now all that stood between him and complete strategic control of the Middle East was the retreating British army.

Mt. RushmoreDerek was a man of regular fasting and prayer. He looked at the impossible situation and asked the Lord, “How do I pray when our own leaders are the main cause of our defeat?” The Lord gave him this prayer: “Lord, give us leaders such that it would be to Your glory to give us the victory through them.” That was a Holy Ghost prayer, completely within the will of God. Derek began to pray it.

Just days later, Derek said he was listening to the radio and a tremor and chill went through his body when a report came that the man the British high command had chosen to send to the battlefront to lead that defense had been instantly killed when his plane touched down; it had clipped its wing on the tarmac, flipped, and crashed. The British high command, in desperation, grabbed an unknown man named B.L. Montgomery, the son of a preacher, and sent him to the front.

Montgomery arrived at the front, took one look at the state of things and immediately brought order to the forces. On the eve of the battle of El Alamein, he called everybody into the yard and said, “The whole world is depending on us but we have no strength for this battle. We are utterly dependent on God who gives victory in battle. Therefore, we are going to get our act together to keep covenant with Him.” As these words filled the desert air around Derek, he heard the Lord speak ever so clearly, “That is the answer to your prayer.” That battle was the turning point in the war, and the first major Allies victory. The history of the world is different today because of the man God appointed in response to fasting and prayer.

God is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is intimately involved in the affairs of men and nations. We are instructed by the Apostle Paul to devote ourselves to prayer, “First of all that supplications, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:1-3).

We have an invitation to change the history of nations as we devote ourselves to prayer.God has one mission, and that is that this Gospel will go to the ends of the earth and then the end will come. He has appointed the nation in which you would dwell because you are an ambassador of His glory and a point of contact for His government to be established within the specific boundaries in which he placed you. Let us each take hold of the mission which He has given His Church and let us devote ourselves to specific daily prayer for our nation, its government, its institutions, its leaders and its influencers.

First of all pray for those in authority. We are less than 100 days from the November elections for President, Congress, and local seats of authority. God’s desire is good government. If you have not already begun to pray, we invite you to join us in lifting up prayers for this crucial election in our nation’s history. Our prayers are not about politics, but about the policies that will shape our nation’s future and the inheritance we leave for our children and grandchildren.

Join us for a forty-day corporate fast September 28 - November 6, 2012. We will be setting aside this time to harmonize with Christians across America to pray for a turn-around for America, restoration of her values, healing for our economy, and a return to the Judeo-Christian foundations that have made this nation great. Ultimately, we pray for awakening and revival for our land. Details and a sign-up form will be posted on our website in the next few weeks.

“Lord, give us leaders such that it would be to Your glory to give us the victory through them.”

GQ EXCLUSIVE: The Secrets and Lies of Joe Paterno
Joe Paterno’s final season began with wins—lots of them—and for a while it seemed as if he might retire at the top of his sport, an unblemished icon. It ended with TV cameras surrounding his house, a dying old man at his kitchen table writing a forced letter of resignation—and leaving the rest of us to wonder if we ever really knew Joe Pa at all. Our exclusive excerpt from a new biography:

“Dad,” he asked his father again, “did you know anything about Sandusky?”
“Other than the thing Mike told me, no,” Joe answered.
“Nothing? No rumors? The coaches never talked about it?”
“No. I don’t listen to rumors. Nothing.”
“Dad, this is really important. If there is anything you heard…”
“I didn’t hear anything, why are you badgering me? What do I know about Jerry Sandusky? I’ve got Nebraska to think about, I can’t worry about this.” Nebraska was the next game.
“I had to do everything I could to not cry right then,” Scott recalled.

A significant lesson for all…..our choices and priorities impact so many people…..
